Recipe of the Month

I haven’t yet perfected the art of chili making, but I do love beans and I do LOVE this dish. It’s a great summertime side dish at your favorite BBQ, or the perfect winter meal with cornbread. SO easy to fix too!
Thanks to my friend Elizabeth for sharing this one!
Old Settlers Beans
1 lb. bacon – chopped and browned
1 lb. hamburger – browned
1 medium onion – diced and browned with meat
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
¼ cup catsup
¼ cup BBQ sauce (any kind/flavor is fine)
2 tbsp. molasses
2 tbsp. dry mustard
½ tsp. each salt and pepper
1 can kidney beans
2 cans pinto beans (slightly drained)
1 tall can Pork-n-Beans OR Bush’s Baked Beans (I prefer Bush’s)
Brown bacon, drain and set aside.
Brown hamburger and onions, drain and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients, then add meats and mix well. Bake at 350 for 1 hour, stirring twice during baking.
Note: The super easy way to do this is to mix & heat it all in the crock pot. I set it to low for a few hours, then reduce to warm once it’s bubbling.
Enjoy!
